Win Schulers! My mom made her own version, very easy & tasty.

Easy appetizer: Spead creamy peanut butter on a tray or plate. Then spread jelly on top (grape is preferred) Then put crackers around the edge. ADULTS love it!

HEY! WHERE'S MY COMMENT? WHAT, YOU ONLY POST GOOD THINGS?

  3. Bryan Says:

I loved the commentary on the peanut butter and lettuce sandwich. Therefore, I decided to google it: http://leaving.fen.com/whatworks/item/front/1,255

It's good for a chuckle, but I'll heed Sara's opinion because it does sound gross.

My potluck contribution would be a big dish of Mac and Cheese…and not from a box.

    1) I believe that cake frosting on graham crackers is a recipe from Winnie-the-Pooh. It's served at Eeyore's birthday party. Backstory: when I was 7-10, my single working mom shipped me and my sister off to camp for the whole summer. BUT! It wasn't a summer-long sleepaway camp, it was an endless stream of one-week girl scout camps. So there wasn't that kind of intense bonding that happens at sleepaway camps, which I know because I later went to a longer-type Jewish camp in Yosemite for three summers. Yay Tawonga! Anyway, the whole girl scout camp thing sucked for a lot of reasons, not the least of which was that I was a vegetarian (plus don't eat eggs, but good with milk and cheese). And even in 1977 in California, this was pretty much unheard of. So the food situation often involved ketchup sandwiches, that is bread, ketchup, and slices of american "cheesefood." One year, I was pretty bummed out because it was my birthday and I was away from home (inevitable since I was born in July) and sick of the whole stupid camp thing. So my couselors arranged a whole birthday party for me, with pink frosting on graham crackers and a reading of the Winnie-the-Pooh story. I guess I was Eeyore 🙁

    2) I wish I had a signature dish for potlucks. They've changed over the years as I've experimented, grown, potlucked with different groups. Nowadays, I often bring lasagna. For a while, I did root vegetables roasted with garlic and rosemary. I have a killllllller recipe for Indian Lime Rice, in which you cook basmati rice with lime juice, jalapenos, coconut and cashews. It is amazing and honestly the easiest Indian recipe I've ever cooked. I'm so insane about potlucks that before I moved from a Big City to the Small Town where I live now, I spent months, yes MONTHS, planning what my potluck dish would be. I imagined that small town life would involve LOTS of potlucks. That effort resulted in a lovely recipe for pineapple upside-down rosemary cake. Yummy! It turns out – not so many potlucks as I imagined. But there have been a few – and lasagna I have brought. I think why a potluck is awesome is because there is a huge variety of delicious, abundant food with relatively little effort by any one person.
